Rep. Mike Zalewski
Zalewski to Lead Key House Revenue Committee
SPRINGFIELD State Rep. Mike Zalewski will begin his fifth full term in Springfield with
his biggest assignment yet.
Zalewski, D-Riverside, today announced he has been named Chairman of the critical
House Revenue Committee for the 100th General Assembly. Zalewski was elected to the
House again in November and sworn into office in a ceremony on Jan. 11.
The Revenue Committee is considered one of the most significant in Springfield because
it considers most legislation that deals with the revenue needed to support the state
budget each year, and traditionally serves as an important layer of protection for
taxpayers. Zalewski served as vice chairman of the Revenue Committee in the past and
was named to replace Rep. John Bradley as chairman, after Bradley did not win his re- election bid.
As legislators and the governor continue to work through their differences on approving a
budget for the remainder of the current fiscal year and on a new budget year that starts
July 1, Zalewski acknowledges he has his work cut out for him in the new role.
“I came to Springfield more than eight years ago to help responsibly take on Illinois’
toughest challenges, and this chairmanship will put me in prime position to do just that,”
Zalewski said. “I appreciate Speaker Madigan’s faith in selecting me for this critical role. I
will work hard to preserve the Committee’s tradition of carefully reviewing all proposals to
change our tax and fee structure and put taxpayers first in our decisions.”
